    Practice makes perfect?

Or are you going slowly mad in your tower?

This may be silly, but I am curious whether you typed each word or copy and pasted? Where there many typos?

Do you mean ‘Were there many typos?’
      No.
The difficult bit was getting ‘theory’ to appear in the right place on the page. Jack Torrance had no such problems with his novel.

    Bodger – Susan – Marnie –

I cannot decide if he is an ‘artist’, or a ‘hermit’, but if he is an ‘artist’, maybe it is because the job description requires him to be one.

Either way, the job description of a ‘hermit’ has been outlined quite enough in these pages, and – as far as I am concerned – the job of an artist is to create things, not destroy them.

Maybe he will answer your questions (and maybe not).

“Maybe he will answer your questions (and maybe not).”

He does seem to avoid half my questions.

Never did find out if it was him or the museum paying his council tax.

        Dear Bodger,

I am very sorry that you think I am avoiding half your questions. To be honest, this task I have set myself, of balancing between hermit and artist is proving to be much more taxing than I had imagined. A hermit simply retreats from communication, an artist however welcomes, even instigates it.
I am doing my best to keep the foundation of my meditation and yoga practice, which is the core of my work, while simultaneously writing this blog and fielding the various brickbats and bouquets. Please excuse me if I am failing to meet your expectations.

I have tried to explain my thinking as carefully as possible, if not sometimes at too great a length. Occasionally I have deliberately kept quiet, even though I have strong opinions, in order to allow other voices to be heard.
At other times I have chosen not to repeat myself.

I apologise if you feel ignored. I will endeavour to be more efficient in answering serious questions from anyone who wants to engage sincerely with the beauty and sorrow we are all responsible for creating.

On the subject of council tax, as far as I know it is included in the rent that the Museum pays to the University of Manchester for the use of this Tower.

The job of an artist, as I see it, is so create meaning.

Meaning and beauty? The monk ‘drunk on beauty’ could be seen as interpreting the absolute meaning in a non intellectual way, and sometimes artistry produces beauty from the most unlikely areas. Objects of pure functionality are amongst the most beautiful created, and quite often weapons fall into this category. There are Japanese and Persian swords which are breath-taking in their beauty, and their makers were acknowledged as true artists at the time of their making. Funny old world, eh?

Sitting on your own is destroying things not art, ask anyone in prison and typing practice a few times isn’t either, I don’t get it. A hermit does not communicate and shuts him /herself off from the rest of the world there is no balance… by communication the hermitage is negated and thus pointless.

I did some work for Mr Hirst at Science recently and had the same conversation about his “pickling ” its not art and its not created as it already exists and it does not make the viewer ask questions ( other than how much money the artist earns) there are loads of animals in labs all over the world that have been subjected to the same…..

Get a job and contribute to the greater good by paying tax,

    Rob

This is very pertinent to tai chi!

Is it? There is a feintly amusing connection between the name of the Burmese General whose name certainly sounds like ‘Feng Shuei’ and his desire to keep Aung San Suu Kyi under house arrest – maybe he also has a say in the interior decor too?
